There is a 14-Acre Mini Miracle
...tucked in the rolling hills of Streetsboro, Ohio right next door to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It is Daybreak Lavender Farm and it takes its name from each day's sunrise ... which we celebrate everyday as we walk all the diverse eco-systems packed into this one small farm. DayBreak has one each of: lavender field, meadow, swamp, marsh, forest, woods, cultivated flower beds, an organic cultivated heirloom veggie garden, a very chatty henhouse, a small orchard, a berry patch, an asparagus bed, a wild prairie-let and a small lake. A mountain and a desert are the only environments we're missing!! And, of course, there is our soap studio and canoe-building workshop. It's a lot for two aging Hippies. But we have help. All this is pollinated and generally jazzed around by hundreds of itinerant butterflies, 5 hives of busy bees and who knows how many million hard-working, unsung worms! This abundance yields all the buds, flowers, leaves, barks and saps -- I use in our all natural soaps, pure spa treatments and garden-fresh toiletries.A FARM WINTER
Roaring fires, warm blankets and seed catalogues ... horticultural pornography my mother used to call them! We grow heirloom veggies in our organic gardens, so I save those seeds but there are some annuals, drying flowers and some great hybrids, we just can't live without. So this is the time, we pore over the catalogues and - far from any actual exertion, you understand - plan next year's garden. Of course, soapmaking never stops and all our natural, organic soaps are made all year long and cured in our soap cellar. Winter is fine time for making soap.EARLY SPRING
Now we sow our organic annuals, herbs and heirloom veggies for our Annual Herbal Festival! By April, they're well sprouted with good leaf production, and then they move outdoors, graduating to field or garden as soon as frost is really, really past! Visit now and we might just hand you a broad fork to turn over a couple of rows!!CRAZY, HAZY DAYS OF SUMMER
Summer's our crazy busy season. Visit during the Ohio Lavender Festival , to pick your own lavender or everlasting drying bouquet, and you'll find us right out in the fields with you!! We hand-cut, bundle, hang and dry every lavender bundle, herb and flower bouquet ourselves. Many are infused into oils, or also used for floral or herbal waters. And soon we'll be distilling our own essential oils for our very special and all natural lavender soaps.BUSY AUTUMN
Now we take in and dry, then grind, all the dried petals, leaves, seeds and buds which are added to our all-natural, herbal face scrubs, herbal soaps, botanical bath teas, fizzies and foaming melts. We save our heirloom seeds for next year. And we give thanks for this is a precious time because Autumn's harvest gives us the ingredients we will need in Winter to handcraft your herbal aromasoaps, botanical spa bars, all-natural crème lotions, bath teas, culinary herbal blends and homekeeping supplies. And so the cycle of seasons keeps on turning ... It is the greatest gift of our lives to spend this time of my life on DayBreak Lavender Farm. And our natural, organic herbal soaps, spa treats and garden-fresh toiletries are our way of sharing Mother Earth's magnificence with you. Enjoy!!
